More About Terence Painter

Firearms Instructor and NRA Training Counselor

Terence H. Painter is a highly experienced firearms, safety, and tactical training professional with more than 15 years of instructional experience and a passion for developing responsible, skilled, and safety-conscious shooters. Since becoming a Texas Handgun License Instructor in 2009, he has trained more than 1,100 students and built a reputation for delivering practical, professional, and engaging firearms education.

In 2012, Terence earned certification as an NRA Firearms Instructor and became qualified to teach Rifle, Pistol, Shotgun, and Muzzleloader disciplines. That same year, he achieved certification as a Chief Range Safety Officer, expanding his training portfolio to include Range Safety Officer courses and helping develop safer shooting environments for recreational and professional shooters alike.

Dedicated to promoting responsible outdoor traditions, Terence and his wife, Neta, became certified Texas Hunter Education Instructors in 2016. Together, they offer Hunter Education classes as a community service, helping preserve hunting heritage and instill safe, ethical hunting practices in future generations.

Terence continued to broaden his expertise by becoming certified to teach the NRA's Refuse To Be A Victim® program in 2018. That same year, he earned NRA Training Counselor status, allowing him to train and certify new NRA Instructors in the disciplines he teaches. He also completed Texas Department of Public Safety School Safety Instructor training in October 2018.

His credentials continued to expand with NRA Certified CCW Instructor certification in 2020, followed by NRA Metallic Cartridge Reloading Instructor and Personal Protection Outside the Home Instructor certifications. In December 2023, he added Home Firearms Safety Instructor to his growing list of qualifications.

Recognized for his leadership within the firearms training community, Terence was selected in 2021 to serve as one of the NRA's State Training Counselor Liaisons. In 2022, he was appointed Northeast Texas Regional Director for the Texas State Rifle Association (TSRA), and in 2023 was elected to the TSRA Board of Directors in that role.

In May 2022, Terence became a certified UTM Force-on-Force Instructor, bringing realistic scenario-based training opportunities to students seeking advanced defensive and tactical skills. Most recently, in 2026, he expanded his expertise into emergency response and tactical medicine after completing Texas DPS training to become a First Responder and Tactical Medical Professional Trainer.

Today, Terence continues to provide comprehensive firearms, safety, hunting, self-defense, and instructor development training. His mission is simple: to equip individuals with the knowledge, skills, and mindset necessary to safely and confidently protect themselves, their families, and their communities.

"Knowledge, preparation, and responsible training save lives."
